fk500fnt.jpg The FlowKit-500 is a quiet, efficient mass flow generator suitable for generating the high mass flow rates required for the respirometry of large mammals ranging from goats up to elephants or whales in size.

Each FlowKit-500 is calibrated against a highly accurate mass flow standard and gives excellent results over the range of 25 - 500 liters per minute. It can be used in push mode or, more usually, in pull mode, as required when pulling air from a large respirometry chamber or room, or from a mask. 

The FlowKit 500 mass flow generator's operation relies on modulating a powerful but quiet pump in order to create the set mass flow rate. Ultra-efficient PID (proportional Integral Derivative) control is used for quick response to setpoint changes and minimal variation from the setpoint. As a result, the pump works only as hard as it has to, greatly reducing pump wear, power consumption, and noise. Speaking of noise, even at 500 liters per minute the FlowKit-500 is quiet enough to hold a whispered conversation adjacent to it.

The same friendly, intuitive menu-driven system, backed up by non-volatile memory, as used in other Sable Systems products, operates the FlowKit-500 mass flow generator. It incorporates a sub-sampling pump for ease of plumbing to a respirometry system, and features both analog and serial outputs for easy connection to a data acquisition system. It is fully computer-controllable via its serial port. It also features a user-configurable alarm to alert users locally and (optionally) remotely if a fault develops. It is powered from 24 VDC (universal adapter supplied) and can be operated from an optional battery pack for field use.

Accurate flow control is vital in applications such as respirometry, and the FlowKit-500 mass flow generator, which requires no temperature or barometric pressure correction because it generates a mass or molar flow rate already corrected to STP, is an excellent choice for research-grade high flow rate applications.
