Our LA-4 fully portable large animal respirometry system produces accurate, reproducible data from animals from large
rats up to resting humans in size. Generally used in pull (mask) mode, the LA-4 portable large animal respirometry system incorporates water vapor pressure and barometric pressure measurement for accurate compensation of regulated mass flow rates. Dilution compensation of oxygen and
carbon dioxide analyzer readings is also supported, which can eliminate the need for any scrubber chemicals.
The LA-4 fully portable large animal respirometry system is entirely self-contained in a heavy-duty, hermetically sealed box that is dust- and water-proof when closed. Handles, plus a telescoping baggage-style handle and wheels, facilitate transportation. Power is supplied by an external 12 VDC source. A universal power supply is supplied with the unit. In field situations, the LA-4 large animal respirometry system can be powered from batteries.
The LA-4 portable large animal respirometry system is normally supplied with both oxygen and carbon dioxide analyzers, and measures oxygen consumption rate, CO2 production rate, RQ, and water loss rate. Using RQ, the respiratory substrate of the test animal can be determined, allowing accurate translation of gas exchange measurements to energy equivalents, e.g. Watts, Joules/hr or calories/day.
Data
acquisition can optionally use the system's built-in non-volatile data storage, eliminating the need for a laptop computer in many situations. However, an advanced data acquisition interface (the Sable Systems UI-2) is built-in, giving access to advanced features such as optional automated baselining plus additional input channels. Data can be acquired by, or uploaded into, our acclaimed ExpeData™ software which is the product of over twenty years' experience in computerized data acquisition and analysis. Data can also be captured in real time from a separate serial output.
Complete user control over every aspect of the system's operation is supported. The analysis of acquired data is uniquely flexible
and can also be fully automated, if desired. The respirometry equations used in the system are state-of-the-art. Lifetime technical support by experts in respirometry is included.
