MFC-4 Specifications:
Power Requirements: Nominal 12 Volts DC (11-15 Volts DC range) at up to 2.5 A, depending on the number of flow controllers connected. Fully protected against reverse polarity connection. A 120 VAC 1A power source is supplied with the unit (other voltages to special order; a universal (80-250 VAC, 2A) supply is also available).
Power Outputs: Internally generated, isolated supplies of +15.0 ± 0.25V and -15.0 ± 0.25V at up to 350 mA each per mass flow controller/meter. Regulation over the full load range is better than 0.1%. Note that these supplies are fully isolated from the +12V input, eliminating grounding conflicts and ground loop noise.
Readout: Four-line, 16 character alphanumeric LCD display with backlight displays set and read information for both channels, and displays prompts for the instrument's straightforward, intuitive menu system. Can read and set flow in relative (percent of full scale) or absolute (actual flow rate) units, plus mixing information.
Gas Mixing Mode: The chosen valves are set to read in absolute flow rate units. The total flow rate is entered, and the percentage contrinution of each valve is entered (the last valve's contrinution is automatically calculated). No calculations are required.
Controller/meter Connectors: Four standard 15-pin D-sub female connectors. A 1 meter cable comprising a D-sub to industry-standard mass flow controller connector (20-way PC card-edge type) is supplied with the unit. The MFC-4 connectors are pinned so that cables can be easily made by clinching a standard male D-sub connector and a standard PC card-edge connector (or other connector as required) onto standard insulation displacement ribbon cable, using a standard bench vise or C-clamp. Very reliable cables can be made in this way in very little time, if you wish. Alternatively, Sable Systems can supply any necessary cables.
Flow meter output: Four fully buffered, short circuit proof outputs are supplied, available from high-quality isolated BNC sockets on the front panel. Outputs range from 0.000V (no flow) to 5.000V (100% of the meter's full scale flow range), with linear scaling in between. The outputs are electrically accurate to 0.05%. However, please note that the accuracy of these outputs is ultimately dependent on the accuracy of the attached mass flow meter or controller, which will seldom be better than 1%.
Serial I/O: RS-232 protocol, 9600 baud, 8 data bits, 1 stop bit. Can accept commands in poll mode or output regular comma-delimited ASCII set and read strings for both channels at a user-specified interval.
Flow scaling outputs: These outputs supply a very accurate, adjustable 0.000 - 5.000V to the mass flow controllers, causing them to deliver 0 to 100% of their full scale flow rate. An extremely stable aerospace-grade voltage reference IC with temperature stability better than 0.01% over a 0 - 50°C range supplies the reference voltage, which should never need to be adjusted. The control voltage, derived from the reference voltage, is set by the user via the quick, intuitive menu system, and buffered by a precision output stage prior to being routed to the appropriate mass flow controller valve. The outputs will power any commercial mass flow controller and are short circuit proof.
Case: heavy-gauge aluminum, fully shielded, 6" x 7" x 4".
