Our SA-4 portable small animal field-portable respirometry system produces
accurate, reproducible
data from animals from small reptiles and amphibians up through large
rats in size, anywhere - in the lab, or in the field. It can be used in
push, pull or stop-flow mode. In stop flow mode the systems'
measurement range can easily be extended to small insects. Contained in
a sealable, rugged box that is dust- and water-proof, the SA-4 portable small
animal portable respirometry system can be used anywhere. It is
available with
an optional water vapor
pressure analyzer for flow and dilution compensation without requiring
scrubber chemicals.
The SA-4 portable small animal field-portable respirometry system is normally supplied with an integrated
oxygen and carbon dioxide analyzer, and measures oxygen consumption
rate, CO2 production rate, RQ, and water loss rate. Using RQ, the respiratory substrate of the test animal
can be determined, allowing accurate translation of gas exchange
measurements to energy equivalents, e.g. Watts, Joules/hr or
calories/day.
Data
acquisition is fully automatic, using our acclaimed ExpeData™ software,
the product of over twenty years' experience in computerized data
acquisition and analysis. Complete user control over every aspect of
the system's operation is supported. Baselining
can optionally be fully automated, though in field situations the system is
usually manually baselined or it may be self-baselining (e.g. an animal entering
and leaving a habitat or feeder voluntarily). The analysis of acquired
data is uniquely flexible and can
also be fully automated, if desired. The respirometry equations used in
the system are state-of-the-art.
All necessary tubing and accessories are supplied with the system. Lifetime technical support by
published experts in respirometry is included.
