Body Temperature Monitoring System

Our MetaMeter telemetry-based body temperature measurement systems are designed with Sable Systems' famous attention to accuracy and high resolution. Consider this graph, created with the aid of Hershey, our in-house rodent-American telemetry tester:

You will notice a few things, relative to what you may be used to with legacy body temperature monitoring systems. The most important are high resolution, and excellent data integrity. You might be wondering what secrets the fine structure of this graph might contain, now that you can see body temperature fluctuations so clearly.

Our customers have been asking us to make accurate, high resolution body temperature monitoring systems for many years. For a variety of reasons we didn't want to enter the field. Finally, we relented. Here are the features of our new MetaMeter system:

Use your legacy telemeters with our intelligent, networking bases that store calibration data
Resolution: 0.01 °C, accuracy: 0.1 °C, range as calibrated, up to 0 - 50 °C
Bases display actual telemeter temperature to 0.01 °C via LED display every 2 seconds
Only one master station is required for up to 250 bases
Each base can also measure activity and ambient temperature plus 2 counters & 2 analog inputs
Network and power connection are made via simple daisy-chained telephone quad cable
Interference-proof, fully digital interconnections (length up to 1 km!)
Zero programming interface with graphic data analysis & text export

Scientists who have required body temperature monitoring over a wide range of temperatures, such as those encountered in hibernation or torpor studies, have long been frustrated by the fact that existing manufacturers of telemetry systems have not (in their opinion) been particularly sensitive to their concerns. For example, expensively re-calibrated telemeters are tested at just two frequencies, and a linear line drawn between them - even though the relationship between telemeter temperature and output frequency is anything but linear!

We have researched this problem, and for users of wide-range systems, we have developed proprietary non-linear mathematical functions that allow extremely accurate calibrations to be made. Here is an actual example of raw frequency-temperature data, and you can judge by yourself how adequate a two-point linear calibration between, say, 15 and 40 °C would be. Especially at intermediate temperatures. metameter2-1.gif

This calibration curve, incidentally, was generated by one of our MetaMeter prototypes in conjunction with the built-in ramping and stepping functions of our new PeltPlate intelligent heat/chill plate. We can supply a complete non-linear telemeter calibration system on request. We can also supply base units that are stand-alone, for integration of telemetered body temperature into other experimental setups without the requirement for tedious importation, after-the-fact synchronization, and de-glitching.

We are willing to customize our systems for customers with unusual requirements. We believe you won't find a more flexible supplier of telemetry-based body temperature monitors, nor one as convinced of the importance of uncompromising accuracy and high resolution. We know and respect the requirements and motivations of research scientists. We're not imitators. We're innovators.

The MetaMeter is now in production. We have already delivered complete systems, and we invite you to contact us with any questions you may have about the MetaMeter system or any of our other products .

Imitators please note: The MetaMeter is protected by a pending patent.
