Courses and Conferences Calendar

John Lighton, President and Chief Scientist of Sable Systems International will be giving a talk, “Design of Calorimeters – General principles, brief overview – emphasis on lab scale systems” during the course on Indirect Calorimetry in Krakow Poland on Friday, September 16th.

The respirometry course – held at the University of Florida, Gainesville, FL – teaches participants how to measure metabolic rates using indirect calorimetry. We will apply techniques for measuring O2 consumption, CO2 production and water vapour loss for insects and other small invertebrates. Participants can work with single animal and high through-put systems in both open-flow and stop-flow.
Accommodation in Gainesville is not covered by registration fees. The course is limited to 12 attendants.

The course teaches participants how to use indirect calorimetry in metabolic screening. We will apply techniques for measuring real-time O2 consumption, CO2 production and water vapor loss for laboratory rodents. Measurement systems also include food & water intake, body mass monitoring, wheel running and voluntary activity. Data analysis is a significant focus.
