The Metabolic
Physiology Meeting 2026

Hosted by the White-McGarrah Lab
Partnered with Sable Systems

April 27-30, 2026, Sonesta Resort
Hilton Head Island, SC, USA

The Metabolic Physiology Meeting brings together trailblazers in metabolic physiology research from around the globe. METPHYS2026 will be the fourth edition of this annual meeting held on the idyllic Hilton Head Island.

The meeting features the latest advances in molecular mechanisms governing metabolic homeostasis, nutrient sensing, metabolic flux, cancer metabolism, and immunometabolism, providing a dynamic forum for discussion and networking that bridges the many distinct domains of metabolic physiology research.

KEYNOTE SPEAKER

Dr. Jeffrey M. Friedman

Jeffrey M. Friedman, MD, PhD, is a Howard Hughes Medical Institute Investigator and the Marilyn M. Simpson Professor and head of the Laboratory of Molecular Genetics at Rockefeller University. He is primarily recognized for his groundbreaking discovery of the hormone leptin. His research established a biological basis for obesity, fundamentally changing the scientific and medical community’s understanding of body weight regulation. Friedman’s ongoing work explores the intricate neural circuits and genetic mechanisms that control eating behavior and metabolism.

In recognition of his exceptional contributions to science, Jeffrey has been honored with numerous awards including the Shaw Prize for Life Sciences and Medicine, the Albert Lasker Award for Basic Medical Research, and the Breakthrough Prize in Life Sciences. He is also an elected member of the National Academy of Sciences, the National Academy of Medicine, and a Foreign Member of the Royal Society.

The Sable Award

Each year, the Metabolic Physiology Meeting comes to a close with the presentation of “The Sable Award for Outstanding Contributions to the Field of Metabolic Physiology.” The Sable Award recipient is selected from the previous year’s Sable Class of speakers. The presentation of the award is accompanied by a $20,000 honorarium and followed by an award lecture and closing reception dinner. Join us in April to discover who will be this year’s recipient of The Sable!
