#METPHYS2024
The Metabolic
Physiology Meeting
April 22-24, 2024
Hilton Head Island, SC, USA
The Metabolic Physiology Meeting 2024 brought together trailblazers in metabolic physiology research from around the globe. It was the second edition of a yearly scientific meeting hosted by Phillip White and the White-McGarrah Lab with the generous support of our partners at Sable Systems International, Inotiv, Lucid Scientific, PHCBI and Vanderbilt MMPC Vibrant.
This meeting covered a broad range of topics including molecular mechanisms of metabolism, advances in metabolite channeling, molecular integration of metabolic signals, peptide hormones and receptors, metabolic regulatory circuits, advances in oncometabolism, determinants of adipose fate and function, and provided a home for discourse and networking across the many distinct domains of metabolic physiology research.
We hope you can join us at the next Metabolic Physiology Meeting for engaging, informative and thought-provoking science presented by pioneers in the field.
Thank you to all our sponsors!

The Sable Award
Each year, the Metabolic Physiology Meeting is capped with the presentation of “The Sable Award for Outstanding Contributions to the field of Metabolic Physiology.” The 2024 recipient is Shingo Kajimura, PhD. Dr. Kajimura was selected for his pioneering work defining the mechanisms that determine thermogenic adipose tissue form and function in health and disease.

Dr. Kajimura is a principal investigator at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and a professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School. The Sable Lecture was presented with a $20,000 honorarium at the meeting.
The 2023 Sable awardee was Kathryn E. Wellen. The 2025 Sable awardee will be selected from the METPHYS2024 invited speakers by a panel comprising Kathryn Wellen, Shingo Kajimura as well as the past keynote speakers, David James and Bruce Spiegelman.

KEYNOTE SPEAKER

Dr. Bruce M. Spiegelman is the Stanley J. Korsmeyer Professor at Harvard Medical School and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and a member of the American National Academy of Sciences, American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and the Institute of Medicine. He joined Harvard Medical School and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in 1982 and his lab has been at the forefront of innovation and discovery in the field of molecular metabolism ever since. In recognition of his pioneering work, Bruce has been honored with many notable awards including the Heinrich Wieland Prize; the Rolf Luft Award; the Eliot P. Joslin Medal; the Frederick Banting Medal; the Manpei Suzuki Prize; and the Helmholtz Prize for Diabetes Research.
