Description
The Promethion FR Series flow generators pull a constant flow of air from up to 8 rat or mouse cages at once, plus a baseline flow. It actually contains nine flow control systems, one for each cage plus one for baseline flow. The flow rate is equal for all cages, and can be set by the user (typically 2000 mL/minute for mice or 3000 mL/minute for rats). For multiplexed mouse or rat respirometry, a single FR-8 flow generator is all you need for up to 8 cages.
The FR series represents the latest in flow generator technology. A conventional multiple-channel pull-flow system requires one separate pump for each pulled air stream. That adds up to a lot of power, heat dissipation, wear and maintenance – even though one air stream at a time is actually sent to the gas analyzer in a multiplexed system. The FR series flow generators solve this problem by replacing all but one of these multiple pumps with a single vacuum pump, into which all non-selected gas streams are pulled at a precisely controlled flow rate. The non-selected air streams are mixed together, but not analyzed. Only the selected air stream is pulled through the single sample pump – with its flow rate monitored by an accurate, NIST-traceable primary mass flow meter.
For room calorimetry, we offer the Promethion FG series of flow generators. The FG-250 has a range of 50-250 SLPM, and the FG-2000 has a range of 250-2000 SLPM.
Promethion systems are also capable of continuous metabolic measurement with one second sampling rates in all applications from human room calorimetry to rodent research.
